Night aboard Junk at Halong Bay, a photo from Hai Phong, Red River Delta

Photographer's Note

Spending a night aboard a junk in Halong Bay is certainly a experience. All the tourist junks will anchor at one of the bays among the islands and the place becomes almost a small floating city with lights.

This shot was taken aboard my junk which was also swaying with the waves. I had to find a tradeoff between ISO and camera speed to minimise the junk movements in the waves. I believe a IS lense may do wonders here. The bright light source in the backround is from a fishing vessel. There was also a slight haze that night which diffused the light.

I also have been getting comments that most of my uploads are a little soft, so I have increased the sharpening for my future shots to be uploaded.

Very interesting night picture. using high ISO was clearly the right choice here, I don't see much noise except near the bright light source in the background but it is a non issue. The blues you got because of the light in the dark sky and on the sea are very beautiful. Good work!

After a year without smiling to many great photos of true TE friends, I turned my point system ON today...
In other words, I am lucky to find this beautiful picture of my country. I am glad you did NOT add a frame to it, after it had a natural one itself.

Well done with your new camera. Good choice of camera setting. The blues and the colors from the lights on the boats sitting in a dark backdrop really gives it an awesome contrast.

A very interesting picture. Love the blue light from the fishing vessel. The lights from the windows of the junk & their crystal clear reflections create a wonderful atmosphere. One can still see the faint silhouettes of the limestone formations. Really wonderful!
