Each country is uniquely different, and it is a tough call comparing one with the other. But in terms of awe-inspiring history and phenomenal architecture, only one nation stands out imho – Uzbekistan. Bukhara, Unesco WHS, is historically one of the great trading cities along the Silk Road for more than 1,000 years old. It is the most complete example of a medieval city in Central Asia with an urban fabric that has remained largely intact. Monuments of particular interest include the Kalyan Ensemble, a masterpiece of 10th-century Islamic architecture.

This is a picture of the external porch of Kalyan Mosque.

You could stare at those tiles for days…...

Hello Abmdsudi, a good choice to come in close and focus on the intricate patterns of the tiled walls; the colours and designs are amazing.
I am in awe of the skill of the people who created these masterpieces, and so long ago.

I really enjoyed looking at all the ceramic decorations in mosques and other buildings in Uzbekistan (and taking lots of photos of them). A good photo of this beautiful example.

Wonderful composition with this great variety of tiles in terms of design and varied colors, although blue is the most abundant color.
