Photographer's Note

A group of old men spent a lazy late-summer afternoon on a bench in the centre of Nokhur, a small village near the Iranian border in southern Turkmenistan. They told tales from old days and were listeing closely to stories from the outside world.
Turkmenistan - being largely isolated, receives no more than a hand full of closely watched and permanently accompanied tourists. International media is banned, individual travel visa are non-existent and outside the capital any contact with the native population can cause serious problems for both, the visitors and the locals. Thus any foreigner managing to visit those rather remote places can be sure to receive two things: extreme hospitality and a keen interest in any story from another world.
