Photographer's Note

I apologise in advance for this cliché postcard shot, but I think the Temple of Dawn in Bangkok, is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and well worth sharing. Set on the banks of the Chao Phraya River this building is probably one of the most photographed buildings in Thailand. I know, I’ve been taking shots of it for years from lots of different angles, but this is the first acceptable image I’ve managed to get. For some reason it is almost impossible to find a good angle from ground level where you can get the river and the temple in the same shot. I was lucky enough to meet a student from Finland who was studying Thai massage, he told me that the building where the massage school was, was on the river but on the opposite bank to the Temple of Dawn and, it was five stories tall, and, that if I went there when he was there, he could get me onto the roof of the building. WOO HOO. So here’s the shot, the light is not great but you can only shoot the temple when it is front lit. Trying to get it in the backlight you lose too much detail with the silhouette against the hot tropical sky and the sky is so hot it turns white. Anyway this is the best I’ve been able to get, hope you like it.
