Photographer's Note

A monk is contemplative on the marbled floor at Wat Doi Wao in Mae Sae, Thailand.

To reach this point, you have 205 steps to climb, or if you are feeling lazy...hop on the back of a motocycle taxi for about 1USD.

Great views overlooking Mae Sae town, Myanmar, the Mae Sai river, and the surrounding countryside can be seen from where the monk is standing.

Looking to the west, you'll see a gleaming white building which is the marble Thamphajoen Temple nestled at the bottom of a hill. That temple is where a famous monk lived in a cave for 25 years, and is also a temple where a handful of (including an American) female monks live.

The daily burning of leaves and rubbish can be seen over the monks right shoulder, an afternoon ritual during the dry season.
