Photographer's Note

The most distinctive feature of Krabi is the limestone karst formations which litter the landscape and seascape throughout the province.

They are not only spectacular to looks at, but geologically quite rare - unlike most islands which are outcrops caused by volcanic activity beneath the earth's crust or tectonic plate movements, the limestone karsts of Southern Thailand were formed 260 million years ago and formed part of a chain which runs the whole length of South East Asia from China down to Borneo.
