Photographer's Note

In the Ghost festival in the little Town of Loei, in the North east of Thailand. This one armed man is carrying a 'crador' or Shiva lung. It is a representation of the male penis and, as a symbol of fertility, is an important part of this festival. The one armed man, is wearing womens dress (another tradition of the festival) and is dancing with the phallic symbol. This one of many such fertility festivals, who's origins are very ancient and which occur at the end of the dry season and are intended to bring on the monsoon rains.
