Photographer's Note

Phanom Rung Historica Park is the largest and best preserved Khmer monument in Thailand. It is not the easiest place to reach for an independent traveller, but it is certainly worth the effort. The complex is located in eastern Thailand near the Cambodian border, in fact Cambodia's Dongrek Mountains can be admired from the holy hill. The temples were built on an extinct volcanic cone (383m above the sea level) which dominates rather flat surroundings. The place is best reachable from Khorat, we were able to hitchhike a little, and it is a good idea to do that from Ban Ta-Ko on to the temples, as the transportation offered in this town is extremelly expensive. We were lucky to visit the temple during a festival when there was no admission fee required, though the crowd of local tourists was overwhelming... This is the main part of the temple. I hope you like it ;)
