Photographer's Note

This one was taken in the ruins of the old Thai capital of Sukhothai. Sukhothai was the first capital of the kingdom of Thailand, somewhere between 14th and 16th century. The capital was moved to Ayutthaya then. The Sukhothai period is often referred to as the 'golden age' of the kingdom.

The biggest city near Sukhothai is Phitsanulok (itself having a very important buddhist temple). It is easy to visit Sukhothai as a daytrip from there. There are many temples to wander around, and apart from the most famous ones 9notably Wat Mahathat), they are almost deserted, so have the place to yourself.
