Photographer's Note

Sons of not so wealthy families often are sent in Thailand to a Wat where they study Buddhism but also all other faculties, in particular languages. The Wat Phra Sing in down town Chiang Rai is such a teaching institute, where the young monks learn languages, especially English. Only one of these monks is a Thai, the others are from Laos. They all want to become qualified English teachers. After getting their degrees they will leave the monkshood and become commoners in order to teach in colleges English.
