Photographer's Note

There are numerous temples in Thailand called Wat Mahathat (Temple of the Great Relic).
The one in Bangkok, situated between Sanam Luang and Tha Phra Chan Pier is one of the oldest and most important places of learning for Buddhism and meditation.

The courtyard is lined with interesting Buddha statues, but if you look at the ceiling there are fans like this.

I was struck by the colour, but I don't know what the writing means - each fan seems to have different phrases on each blade.

UPDATE 6.5.06
Just heard from a friend in Thailand - the text on the fan is nothing sacred - it's the names of people who have made donations to the Wat.
Perhaps it was better to imagine it as being prayers but never mind!

Cropped, adjusted curves and sharpened.
