Photographer's Note
‘Bangkok - During my evening's shortcut’
For the time being I say goodbye to Thailand with this picture taken in the capital.
One evening returning to the hotel I took a shortcut and came across a small canal located at the rear of a building.
That building isn’t a palace that can be visited as the Ministry of Defense resides there.
In the WS a photo of the beautiful front facade taken at daytime.
This building is located opposite the Grand Palace, the city's most visited building that served as a royal residence from the late 18th century to the mid-20th century.
On the front of the building of the Ministry of Defense there's a lawn displaying different cannons.
Funny is that for a long time these cannons were scattered across the lawn, but they were all aimed at the Grand Palace. This in a country where the monarchy is very popular.
After drawing attention to this, the guns were rearranged.
Nowadays, all cannon barrels run parallel to the street and the Grand Palace is no longer targeted.

Hi Paul,
Beautifully lit palace with almost endless rows of windows. The arch of the bridge and that tree are elements of different style and different illumination. Together they make wonderful combination.

Hello Paul,
This photo really surprises me. I would not possibly have thought this was Bangkok. It doesn't look very typical Thai to me. I have very possibly seen this building and bridge, very long ago, but I have no memory of it. But apart from all this it's a fine photo with a well exposed illuminated façade, nice reflections and a well placed bridge. The daylight WS gives me a much stronger hint of the location.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo Paul,

marvelous these two nocturne views. the reflections and diagonals created are amazing. I liekd the main post because the inclusion of the tree and bridge, but the whole façade nude is amazing too. TFS. I usually don't take nocturne shots while travelling because I arrive in the hotel so tired I have no energy to go out again.. in russia I did an extra effort.
take care

Bonsoir Paul,
Les reflets sur l'eau sont des atouts à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails du pont et de l'immeuble. La durée de l'exposition donne de belles couleurs. Bonne soirée.

Hello Paul, like Gert, I am surprised that this is in Bangkok!
You have presented us with three very good shots.
In this shot, the size and length of the building seems to be emphasised by the illumination.
You captured some wonderful reflections.
Interesting note too, thanks.
Kind regards, Jean.

hello Paul The palace looks big and impressive and in the night shot, we can enjoy the view of the reflections also. I do not remember it, probably I haven't seen this place. I must check in the map where it is. ]
I think that the monarchy WAS very popular. I was twice in Bangkok, the second time there was just birthday celebration of the king Bhumibol who was at the time the monarch ruling the longest time. He died in 2016 aged 88. Maybe now Queen Elisabeth rules longer. The young king is rather controversial.

Hi Paul,
brilliant series of photos. I live very much the night time version with the reflection of course adding a nice touch here.
Great point of view with the bridge enhancing the interest. Also the tree is nicely placed here.
My first thought was that this is a photo taken back in Belgium already :)
Excellent work,

Dag Paul,

Hello Paul,
Wow, this is a glorious building and not of a style that I would have expected in Thailand.
I really like this night shot, with the artificially lit building standing out so clearly against the dark, night sky.
The bridge is a quite outstanding feature, it could be directing attention to the reflections, under its arch, or it could be a grimacing mouth, baring its bright, white teeth!
The w/s are excellent additions to our understanding of the building and its setting but, it is this one that has the drama.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Paul,
A lucky find, and a good point of view. The pool reflects both the illuminated building and the bridge to form a pleasing arrangement. The exposure captures the colours of the building as well as the tree branches.

Mooie foto om je Thaise reeks mee te besluiten, Paul. Het ziet er niet zo Thais uit, moet ik bekennen. Beetje vreemd. Knappe weerspiegelingen, mooie kleuren. Ook de WS zijn een meerwaarde.
Groetjes & bedankt

Hi Paul,
Looks like some of the Chinese canals I saw. The yellow façade of the building contrasts well with the blue grey tones of the arched concrete bridge. Excellent sharpness with nice reflections. Tfs!

Hello Paul,
Just 'One night in Bangkok' and you found a place like this . I must say, a shortcut worth encountered - such a lovely romantic scene , so quiet and peaceful ( normally Bangkok is very busy and noisy). I could imagine two lovebirds standing on the bridge , romancing away to the bright light reflecting the beauty surrounds them.
Or you, saying goodbye to Bangkok with heartbroken :-)
Honestly, I've seen this place before when I was in Bangkok two or three times. Maybe I didn't take any shortcut :-)
I do like the WS2 - it's totally different moods. It's more like the force of power with the target to destroy , the position of the cannons. Thankfully, now it's just for the show.
All three photos are stunning , even in the darkness and the beautiful blue sky you have. I can't say it's not Thailand, because on the b/g ( left ) I see a Thai white Stupa standing proudly as the M.O.D. building.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful shortcut.

Hi Paul
Wow, what a way to finish your reportage for Thailand! Beautiful nighttime image, the colour and and the light on the facade are amazingly beautiful. The silhouettes of the tree and the bridge create intricate shapes and additional points of interest. The images in WS are also lovely but this one is an absolute stunner and deservedly the main upload.
Best wishes

Hello Paul.
Two extraordinary images of this impressive building, the night one has a lot of charm, but the daytime one is very vivid with those beautiful gardens in front of it.
Very effective coloring, which highlights the details of the image.
Good management, both in terms of brightness and sharpness.
Very well done. I like it.
Enjoy the weekend.
My best wishes for you.

Best Wishes,
