Devotion in the Time of SARS VII, a photo from Taipei, North

Photographer's Note

I have recently had reason to look again at my Devotion in the time of SARS series, which I started back last March. When going through my negatives, I found this shot, which I had not posted before. This whole series was done during the outbreak of SARS here in Taiwan. SARS really did a lot of damage. People were so frightened, nobody went anywhere. This was taken at Lungshan Temple, where I have taken quite a number of photos, and captures another person worshipping despite the fear.

Relooking at this series, I was surprised to find a number of shots which I was pleased with, yet that I never posted. I am by no means a pro or an expert, but if you will forgive the ego, this was a series I continue to be proud of. I only wish I had originally shot these on slides.

I will definitely crop this at the right. The darkness there is a bit distracting. That being said, this is a beautiful shot with a moody feeling attached to it. You have all the reasons to be proud of your SARS series, this included.

A well taken photo, a good use of DOF, or didn't you want to get any closer?! you've caught her unawares and its feels like a natural scene. Your theme is interesting and unusual, and this makes a good addition. I think a crop would help a little too. Good shot.

It's a great series within an important theme. Having used slides for a long time now, I'm not sure the results would have been better.

Absolutely wonderful documentary shot!
Great technique, but whats even better, it keeps me looking at it and, with every second that I can't take my eyes of it, a lot of questions come to my mind.

The whole series is really something you can be proud of - it's Pro quality!

Darren, your SARS series was excellent and you should be proud of it, and this is another excellent addition to that series. This pic really has a mood of quiet reflection to it.
