Photographer's Note

Taiwan's Central Cross-Island Highway, especially the part located in the Taroko Gorge National Park, is an amazing road set in a stunning location. Words can hardly describe the rugged beauty of the area.

Tunnels are one of the most common features of the road itself. I was fortunate enough to bike this splendid highway on more than one occasion.

Pictured here is a fellow rider, coming out of a turn and approaching a tunnel. Several things typical to the area are included; the ever-present highway mileage markers, a rounded mirror helping motorists see around a sharp bend, lush green vegetation, and a very narrow road with no shoulder. Dangerous beauty at its finest.
