Photographer's Note

Pupils on a school outing visiting the twin pools (kuttam pokuna), large swimming pools built in ancient times of the first Sinhalese kingdom in Anuradhapura. The larger pool of the two is 40m by 15m, while the smaller pool is 27,5m by 15m. Both pools are 5,5m deep. The water was already filtered before running into the pools. Once the king had fun - now girls and boys are cooling their feet.
