Photographer's Note
one more perahera picture, this time...
---
The Esala Perahera is held annually in Kandy to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic. It runs for 10 days, ending on the poya (full moon).
Its origins go back to when the Sacred Tooth Relic was brought to Ceylon, which was during the reign of King Kirthisiri Meghawanna who ruled at Anuradhapura from 303 to 331.
The Kandy Esala Perahera as we know it today, with the four Hindu Dewale Peraheras participating in it, has its origin in 1775 A.D. under the reign of King Kirthisri Rajasinghe.
The anuual procession in Kandy is one of Asia's most magnificent festivals. Up to 100 elephants take part in it and this year there were more than one million spectators.

This picture shows three elephants in their typical perahera attire. An elephantine constellation of sorts...
Lights in the black...

First I must say this is really surpressive!!
Didnīt realize what it was until read your note!! ;)
A very original work and lights play, a very good subject with a special realization, almost a view to the starry night...the elephant galaxy!!!
I like it very very much!!
Have a nice week end...and stay so immaginative!! :)

hello Benny
first,it was difficult to see exactly what it was,but after reading your not,i can clearly see the heads of the elephants. It's strange how they appear transparent,we have the sensation to see the night through them.it must be a splendid festival.
