Photographer's Note

Ok, this is the scariest Buddha I've ever seen. I say this with reverence because I really love my Buddhas, but this one...

At the same time, it is while shooting photos of my scary Buddha that I finally understood why so many of the TL and TE Buddhas have a beautiful sky in the background. They are just so big, that it is pretty natural to aim into the atmosphere and fire.

This particular Buddha stands watch over the Dambulla Caves. They are a UNESCO world heritage site and quite spectacular, so if you can, do go and see them. The murals cover an area of 2,100 square meters and are truly beautiful. The Buddha itself is 30m tall and covered in gold. A LOT of gold... grin
