it's all about the soul...


Theravada (literally, "the Teaching of the Elders" or "the Ancient Teaching") is the oldest surviving Buddhist school. It is relatively conservative, and generally closer to early Buddhism, and for many centuries has been the predominant religion of Sri Lanka (now about 70% of the population) and most of continental Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand).


This picture was taken at the Buddhangala Rock Hermitage, on a stopover we made on our way to Ampara. Just a small decoration detail in one of the quiet temples there.

I like the way these images seem to be painted over images painted over yet more images.
An endless procession of history repeated, like mankind itself: always the same, always different.
