between the lines...


This picture was shot from one bus to another one at the Ampara bus station. Ampara is slightly off the beaten track in eastern Sri Lanka. There is a Japanese peace pagoda, which is wonderful and doesn't draw huge crowds. As a kind of extra attraction, at times wild elephants pass by.

Ampara lies about halfway between Batticaloa and the south-east's main tourist magnet, Arugam Bay.


Not really a Queen fan here, but, whereas trains and cars have inspired zillions of songs, there seem to be only a handful of songs written about busses. And most of them are about WAITING for the bus, rather than actually riding them. I wonder why...
