Photographer's Note

my favourite buddhist temple, bong eun temple, in the south of seoul is a sea of red due to the massive number of red lanterns currently hanging in the main court yard.

at bong eun temple, they change the lanterns periodically to coincide with seasons and events. before i've seen white lanters. i've also seen multi coloured lanterns. today was the first time i ever saw red lanterns.

over the coming weeks, people can buy a lantern and attach the names of departed loved ones to the bottom. it's a part of the tradition of honouring and remembering ancestors.

this is my second lanterns shot from bong eun temple. my first shot of white lanterns is here.
