Photographer's Note
Threading is an ancient and traditional method of hair removal that originates from Asia, in particular India. It is a skill that is passed down from generation to generation and is employed by Indian women when styling or shaping their eyebrows and removing any unwanted facial hair.
The threader takes a length of 100% cotton, holding the thread at three points, the two hands and their mouth, they then proceed to twist and roll the thread over the clients face. As the thread intertwines and glides over the skin, the twisting strands pull out the hair from the follicle. It is that simple.
Threading does not hurt although there is only a small prickly, stinging sensation, in the skin as the hair is quickly pulled out. Sometimes the skin can be slightly red and sore, afterwards, this can be treated with some skin lotion or oil which is gently rubbed into the threaded area.
Squeezing into Deepavali bazaar deep into the market, i managed to find one and only one stall that provides threading service.
I can't miss this one out!
Hope you can see the white thread clearly!

Hi Ralf,
I learn something every day here, and today it is this! My own beauty regime is a lot less detailed (wash and put clothes on, haha), but I have never heard of this before. I know you say it is not painful, but it still looks uncomfortable! Great capture of this very precise moment in the procedure too.
Cheers
Noel
