Photographer's Note

The small town of Pushkin 25 kilometers outside St, Petersburg is probably best known for the Catherine Palace which can be found less than one kilometer from this town center. We visited Pushkin several times (our son lives in nearby Pavlovsk) and I was surprised how few tourists cover the short distance from the baroque palace to this typical Russian town, complete with covered market place, small square and this "busy" intersection in the center. The contrast to bustling, noisy, cosmopolitan St. Petersburg where most of the visitors are based couldn't be greater. And the contrast to the palace around the corner is of course also considerable. For those who have yet to go - offer yourself an extra hour and that small walk.
This was typical Russian spring weather: a bit of sun, but with rain on its way.
