THE INITIAL POINT, a photo from Saint Petersburg, Northwest

Photographer's Note

This is one of most famous views of Saint Petersburg. This area was conquered by Peter, the Great, in a war against Sweden. He wanted a gateway to the sea and built a fort, in 1703, in one of the islets in the mouth of Neva River, a very swampy area.
Here we can see the Fort of Saint Peter & Saint Paul. In foreground we can see Neva river. In the ramparts you can notice a gate, it was in that point that the prisoners were sent to death or to Siberia during czars times. In the center of the fort there are many interesting buildings and small museums, you can see the shapes of the cathedral with a very long golden needle with an angel in the top. I will show you the angel some days ahead.
That silver building at side of the tower is the highest building in Europe.

Essa é uma das vistas mais conhecidas de São Petersburgo. Essa região foi conquistada por Pedro, o Grande durante uma guerra contra os suecos. O czar decidiu então erguer um forte numa ilhota dessa região pantanosa e dar à Rússia um porto marítimo.
Vemos aqui o Forte de São Pedro e São Paulo, erguido em 1703. No primeiro plano temos o Rio Neva. Nas muralhas do forte vocês poderão ver um portal, era ali que os traidores do império eram mandados para a morte ou para a Sibéria nos temps dos czares. No centro do forte existem várias construções interessantes e pequenos museus. Vemos as formas da catedral se sobressaindo, com sua torre e uma agulha dourada muito alta com um anjo no topo, algo que vou mostrar de perto depois.
Aquele edifício prateado que vemos ao lado da torre é o mais alto edifício da Europa.

Were you on a boat when you took this?
It's a well composed photograph, with excellent views of the fort walls, protecting the inner buildings, just peeping above the ramparts.
The gateway (which sounds very sinister) is well positioned in the frame.

We have a good system in place, in our village, where food is delivered from the shops, paid for on line, and the good are left on the doorstep so that there is no close contact between people.

Jorge, the picture presents a magnificent view with the Neva river in the fg. A tourist river boat was cruising at the time of the click. A spire, a dome and a tower can be seen from this place. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Jorge, very interesting notes as I know very little about St Petersburg.
The sunlight caught the golden glow of the decoration of the various buildings. Indeed the tall spire is very elegant.
The boat provides extra interest as it travels along the river.

Hello Jorge,
This is a nice composition with a fine contrast between the vertical accent of the towers and domes and the horizontal long wall and red boat. There is also a pleasant balance between the light blue sky and the dark blue water. Even apart from the fine composition it's just plainly a nice view.

A great photo of this famous St Petersburg skyline with the dome and this very tall and steep golden spire. The modern skyscraper is a nice new addition and adds a striking contrast. The boat was well included in the foreground.

Hello Jorge, Nice view of the fortress on the other side of the Neva river. As you put your photo in the chronological order (something impossible for me) I can follow your steps. Nice colours. When I was there I haven't noticed this highest building, here it is well visible.

I see that you photographed a similar place like I did a few years ago. In my picture only the boat on the river and the modern tower on the left are missing. Do you know what the modern tower is?
