Photographer's Note

After crossing Stavropol Kray from its north to its south and having taking virtually no pictures because of bad weather, I came to the town of Mozdok in the northern part of Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, where the weather was much better.

This scene, which was captured in Mozdok’s main square, seems to be typical for the town, where such known footballers as Erik Korchagin, Vladimir Gabulov and Georgy Gabulov, were born.

Then, I had to ride my bike to the republic’s capital city, Vladikavkaz. The shortest road between Mozdok and Vladikavkaz goes through the neighboring Republic of Ingushetia. But after the Ossetian-Ingush conflict, local people prefer traveling to their capital through Kabardino-Balkaria, along a much longer road. I had chosen the shortest way, because I had been to Kabardino-Balkaria a year ago.
