Photographer's Note

My drive to the starting point of a serious bike travel over Caucasus Mountains was planed as a comparatively easy 1000-kilometer and 7-day bike trip from Kharkiv to Mineralnye Vody along the mainly flat terrain, just for stretching my legs. But somewhere on 800-th km I was surprised by seeing hills with their altitude differences of 100 m and more (see my previous post). That was the "hallway" of Caucasus, Stavropol Upland, which is the highest part of Ciscaucasia.

The picture was taken near Tatarka (meaning "Tatar woman") Village at the South-West part of the upland, where there is its highest point, Strizhament Mount (831 м above sea level). The mountain in the picture has more than 600 m, while the altitude of the point of view is 417 m. The weather in the picture is rather usual for this place, where maximal level of precipitation for the upland (600 mm) is observed, while the minimum is 200 m (at the Eastern part of the upland).

GPS coordinates: 44.95001 Lat, 41.91065 Long, 417 m
