Photographer's Note

The Hall of Soldiers Glory is a part of memorial complex on Mamayev Kurgan hill in Volgograd (I posted general view of this complex a few days ago). The Hall was create in memory of about one million of soviet soldiers that died during the Battle of Stalingrad, bloodiest battle in history, in winter 1942/1943. The walls of this hall are decorated with mourning standards with names of fallens. In the center of the hall is situated a hand with the candle with eternal flame, symbol of endless life. Guard of honour near the eternal flame is perform day and night by soldiers of Volgograd garrison. From the speakers come sad music "Dreams" by Schumann. Through the hole on the top is visible biggest sculpture in the world "The Motherland Calls!".
