Photographer's Note

In the lower picture of my collage
you can see a part of the Church of the Saviour on the Blood. There quite many exterior views of this church but very few pictures of its interior. And the interior is magnificent. Every square centimeter of the walls and ceiling is mosaics. The church contains over 7500 square meters of mosaics—according to its restorers, more than any other church in the world. The walls and ceilings inside the church are completely covered in intricately detailed mosaics — the main pictures being biblical scenes or figures — but with very fine patterned borders setting off each picture.

Erected on the site where political nihilists fatally wounded Emperor Alexander II in March 1881, the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ was constructed between 1883 and 1907, funded by the imperial family. (Wikipedia)
