Photographer's Note

Petropavloysk Kamchatka
It is called the world’s most remote city – also known as the city of fire and ice

And is a city and the administrative, industrial, scientific, and cultural center of Kamchatka Krai, Russia. It was such a surprise to find it with magical scenery and rugged beauty with many volcanic and snow capped mountains surrounding it. It also has an effective large port (massive fishing industry). There is no access to this city by land only by sea or air - yet has a population of 179,780.

The volcano, Avachinsky, in the backgrund is slightly active with a small smoke cloud rising from is summit. Last major eruption was in 2008.

Photo was taken near sunset wth light still on the mountain. drt100 David
