Photographer's Note
Vladimir is one of the most ancient and beautiful cites of Russia. It was founded at the end of the tenth century by Prince Vladimir the Red Sun or, according to another chronicle, by Vladimir Monomachus at the beginning of the twelfth century. In the middle of the twelfth century, under Andrew Bogolliubsky, Vladimir become the center of North-Eastern Russia and later grew into the main city of the entire Russia.
The Bell-tower and the Cathedral of the Dormition in Vladimir look very impressive inside the old part of the city.
The bell-tower is a tiered structure (56 meters high) built in an eclectic style in 1810 (architect A.Vershinsky). Behind the bell-tower you can see the Cathedral of the Dormition which was for a long time the principal church of Ancient Russia. This building started the formation of the distinctly Russian architectural school. Grand Prince Andrei Bogoliubsky began the construction of Vladimir's Cathedral of the Dormition in 1158.
This photo I took with my clients from Intel company at the same time as previous picture at the end of March 2005 (end of last winter) on the way to Suzdal city. Hope you like the composition and this winter scene from Russia too.

Bonjour Arthur,
merci de partager avec nous ce merveilleux cliché de Moscow, sous la neige bien entendu.
Excellent cadrage et format, et un soleil qui ne réchauffe pas.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Privet Arthur,
It is a good composition indeed, and the backlighting creates a nice visual effect. I have been in Russia 20 years ago, and it is interesting to see on your photos the changes and the "classical" beauties as well. Keep on sharing such pictures!
Best regards
Andras

Hi Arthur
We are just passing through christmastime, and it's fitting with such a "cold" impression that you gives us here.
The cathedral is obviously beautiful, and the snow and the colours gives an impression of coldness that suits the picture.
Well done.

Arthur
Excellent framing and perspective. The contrast between the snow and the sky with the church as a backdrop works well. The lighting is good and reflections well managed.
Cheers

The diagonal presentation of this complex is wonderful, Arthur! The sky is a perfect blue.
I think the bright light and the white snow and buildings tricked your camera into underexposing the picture just a little. It looks a little dark on my monitor so I tried a workshop for you with a levels adjustment.

Thank you Arthur, I do like your winter scene of snow and architecture, especially against the blue sky.
These wonderful churches and cathedrals that you show us, are they still used as religious buildings? With communism I believed that Christian churches were not permitted - am I correct?
It is great seeing these buildings, as their architecture is so amazing - Russia has some of the BEST historical buildings in the word, I think.
Thank you Arthur, for showing us these amazing places. As Andras says, "Keep on sharing such pictures!"
Kia ora from New Zealand,
Janice
