Photographer's Note

Leyte is particularly remembered as the place where General Douglas MacArthur fulfilled his ‘I shall return’ pledge during WW II. In October 1944, US troops landed at Red Beach in Palo, a little south of Tacloban, and started pushing the Japanese out of the Philippines.

A monument and a plaque on Red Beach at Palo commemorate the return of General MacArthur.

This was taken early in the morning when the light was 'sweet'. It was also very humid, and I had to repeatedly wipe my fogged-up lens. And oops - as I look at what I just posted, the image appears too blue which may have resulted from use of filter and following level and contrast (+11) adjustments. Oh well, I'm learning from my excesses.
