Photographer's Note
planting rice is never fun
bend from morn till the set of sun
cannot stand; cannot sit
cannot rest for a little bit....
magtanim ay di biro
maghapon nakayuko
di naman makatayo
di naman makaupo....

I saw some old Ifugao people who couldn't stand still anymore. Being always bent down for years destroyed their back so bad that they were still bending permanently. Sad condition for them...

Hello Benedict.
I like this shot very much - the line of rice planters parallels the line of palm trees behind them. The red shirt stands out really well. I think the light and the green tones are really good. I would not last for five minutes doing this work; my back is already no good.

Andrew

Bonjours,

Hi Ben,
it's nice you have found some time for posting, I know you have hundreds of images of your last trip to your homeland :) THe timing in this shot is really good. I like to see the workers aligned horizontally in that action which reminds me some of the olympic sports :)) Great job!

Carlos

Hi Benedict!
You captured this daily scene very well with the people in foreground and the palm trees in background. Is the poem taken from a song? Guess it's right, this is not a very easy work to do!
Alaz (209) 2008-08-19 8:34
this is a classic philippine imagery--part of Filipino way of life---planting rice.
But what a pity --- it's over exposed, highlights are burnt in the foreground and the skies then what do you expect considering it's taken by P&S camera.

Hello Benedict:
Thank you for visiting my gallery and allowing me to know yours.
A well-established image in the frame, which detailed a trade arduous and tiring, as is the harvesting of rice.
There is a lot of dynamism, good shade and proper handling of enlightenment.

Yes, I think you're totally right about this, Benedict. But it's fun to take pictures of those fields. And also to the people working on them. I'm imagining the strong pain on my back if I was one of those workers. Very well captured and presented in this panoramic format. Excellent human line in FG.
Give me some of that heat in LA, because in Lisbon the summer has been a bit disapointing.

Excellent capture, Benedict. The horizontal composition and crossing lines drive the eye directly to the people working on the field.

Benedict,
I like this picture because it gives the exact dimention of the terrible work of millions of people in the world... planting rice
and your large plan give the good mesure of the space and the conditions of life and work.

Hi Benedict,
it is never fun. the bending will cause you a lot of problems. But to survive..you have to. In Malaysia, it is hard now to see this activity. They depend too much on machine.
Well shown and well presented, I like it as I missed shooting it here.

Foozi
