Photographer's Note

without clouds, it would not rain. when clouds turn into grey, rain looks imminent. clouds are made up of water droplets formed when warm, moist air rises high into the sky and cools. the water vapor in it condenses and forms what will become raindrops. these droplets move around in the cloud and bang into each other. as they do this, they increase in size until they are heavy enough to unleash a downpour (rain).

rain is needed to 'soften' the rice paddies from the previous harvest, for easy plowing in preparation for the next rice planting term, usually every 3-4 months. my last few days of vacation in the farm, it rained cats and dogs, i didn't like it but the farmers...:-)
