Photographer's Note

El Nido - Palawan - Philippines. Big Lagoon on a sunny day. Fantastic colors.

Quick facts: it is not possible to access the inner lagoon on low tide since the entrance of the lagoon is very shallow water. There are several small coves inside the lagoon. Corals are not the most impressive. They have suffered bomb and cyanide fishing for a while before it finally got banned. Not as many fishes as you could expect on such coral reef. However, LOTS OF sea bather's (microscopic plankton)... Beware of rashes and skin problems if you are allergic or simply have sensitive skin!

Good place to visit. The best option is to take private tour rather than the usual organized tours.

1. Because you will be alone on the boat
2. Because you decide where you go and when you go

Packaged island hoping tours take you to different places in one day. They don't actually stop in the lagoon, they just circle it slowly then leave - which means you just see the place for about 15 minutes and don't even get to swim there or take the time to relax and enjoy the beauty of the landscape.
