Photographer's Note

Rungrado May Day Stadium, PyongYang.

This is the biggest sporting stadium in the world, by capacity - around 150,000. And it is freaking gigantic. Each of the arches you see in this picture is almost 60 metres or 190 feet high, and there are 16 of them stretching in otherworldly proportions around the entire stadium.

You can get a sense of the scale from the van, and the soldier standing to attention at the centre bottom of the photo.

Built in 1989, it's most famous for the annual Arirang Games, where tens of thousand of North Koreans perform in honour of Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il.
