Photographer's Note

I wish I had been able to scan this one better, because I find the situation depicted in it quite funny. Another one from my film archives of a memorable trip...

Durbar Square is truly the centre of the oldest part of Kathmandu and, it's one of the landmarks of the city, along with the Pashupatinath Hindu temple complex and the big Buddhist stupas of Boudhanath and Swayambunath (TE gallery here), which are located away from the centre. It's filled temples and two or three palaces, one of them being the old Royal Palace. It's a fascinating place, not only for its monuments, but also for the vibrant life that fills it, surprisingly not completely oriented to the tourists.

In the WS: another view of the square.
