Photographer's Note

The reason for the title is that sadhus, like this one in the photo, "leave behind all material and sexual attachments in life...they are solely dedicated to meditation and contemplation of God" (from Wikipedia).

Also according to Wikipedia: "Today, especially in popular pilgrimage cities, posing as a 'sadhu' can be a means of acquiring income for beggars who could hardly be considered 'devout.'".

This sadhu in the picture looked to me genuine. Unlike others, he wasn't wearing colorful clothes or make-up, he wasn't posing for pics at your request, he wasn't asking for money.

He didn't move at all. Of course, I didn't dare to ask him to move and change position, so as to be in a better place in the sun for the photo. So the shot is from this angle, with sidelight, and for several additional reasons: to catch him full body, to have a good view of the trident he is holding, to have the stone building in the background.

The location is the Pashupatinath complex, in the suburbs of Khatmandu.
