Photographer's Note

It’s hard to believe, when you’re there, that Pokhara is the second largest city in Nepal.

Like Kathmandu with its Thamel, Pokhara also has its tourist quarter, called the Lakeside, full of hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops.

At the other end of the lake lies so-called Northside, which is the complete opposite of the touristy part of Pokhara. Rural, with green fields clinging to the banks of the Phewa and a dirt track shared by pedestrians, cars and motorbikes.

I took this image on the evening of my arrival in Pokhara but it seems an appropriate way to end my mini reportage about my 4 days’ stay in the Pokhara Valley.

A quick reminder: this part of Nepal did not suffer during the 2015 earthquake. It’s there, barely changed, waiting for tourists to come back.
