Photographer's Note
I took this shot early in the morning as I went off solo to climb the Nameless Fangs (5800m). My camera only has a 10 second timer so I had to be really careful not to trip and fall down the 100ft vertical face to the glacier below above which my feet are dangling. I also had to try and look relaxed for the photo but after the sprint back to the sitting position my heart and lungs were fit to burst as the air is so very thin at that altitude.

Just being able to take this shot is pretty cool. You have done very well on your composition as well, although I think a crop from the right, and from the top would not hurt either. I think you would need a very powerful flashgun, but if it was available, it would have been great to be able to light your face a little. The sky looks good, and your exposure is good as well, which would be difficult with all the snow I think.

Good record shot Richard. A bit of a crop on the right would improve it.

I agree with darren little croping from right & top & use of flash would have improved the underexposed foto. But I think oyu did a good job.

As far as self portraits go, this is a very good one. Though it looks a bit risky judging by the compostion of the perch you're sitting on.

I think ishaq's Workshop helps a lot. I'd like to see even more brightness to your face. This is a portrait, one wants to see facial details.
As for the original shot, I think it might have been better to have moved the camera more to the left, turned your head more to the right. That would have given a shot of you in the right side of the frame looking out at the vista.
Next camera, get a remote. It might save your life ;o)

In pictures like this i think that it's all about the content and story. I am so touched by this, you and what you have done. And the shot is great.
