Photographer's Note

Just one more idyllic landscape photo (taken on my last morning in Nagarkot, during my first visit in 2014) before I move on to posting photos of ruins and other earthquake-related subjects again. I’m leaving Nagarkot but not Nepal. From here I travelled back to Kathmandu and visited the surrounding Buddhist sites – Swayambunath and Bodnath.

And the nostalgic title? I am planning another trip to Nepal sometime in the near future but I am unlikely to be able to organise a similar tour as the one in 2016, certainly not in the same company. Like many Nepalese, Ramesh, who made this trip possible, has emigrated to the Middle East and is now serving in Qatar army, earning much more money than in an office in Kathmandu. My Bhutanese friend Leki went back to his country and is trying to start his own business (having lived hand to mouth, for years, on his tourist guide’s wage, while watching his bosses make a fortune). Neither of them will be able to travel with me to Kathmandu Valley anytime soon.

So I may never see Nagarkot again. But then… I did think so too in December 2014.

15 months later I was back.

Two more photos in WS.
