Photographer's Note

That's an intense look of a very lived-in face and reality although it may not be the most pleasant of facial features. This is my attempt to capture the truest picture of this individual by zooming on textures, the deeply etched life experiences and the weathered details in the face that adds a bit of a dose of drama.

Tamangs are one of the indigenous ethnic groups who are mostly farmers, although some work as porters and craftsmen. They are often seen in the streets of Kathmandu carrying large 'doko' or baskets by headstraps supported on their foreheads.

Spotted this Tamang farmer having a tea break at a small tea shop on the Himalayan foothills in Lamadida Village, Nagarkot.
