Photographer's Note

Earlier that morning, we met Nanda, one of the monk of the Nga Phe Chaung Monastery famous for its jumping cat (or sleeping depending on the time of the day...).

He confirmed us that quite close, there would be a major religious festival at the Aludabang pagoda. Indeed, the same morning, our boat driver (a 12-year old devil) told us the festival was over, we had to go back to our hotel and it may be raining, all markets were closed so anyway we had to go back....

So, we took our little boat driver who tried to fool us and with the help of Nanda, convinced him that he should drive us to that Pagoda.

For the first hour, we greatly enjoyed the atmosphere with local Intha people who were waiting for the monks. Making food, revering buddha, trying to get merits, eating, playing chinlon and so on... At one entrance of the main pagoda, I noticed that little girl trying to see what was beyond the stone fence. I was immediatly attracted by the composition (perspective, buddha in the background, the white/yellow tints from her shirt, from the background and on her face (Tanakah powder typical in Myanmar).

Later, the monks started to gather in that place. Loads of monks were coming by boats, hundreds of them, kids, adults, old monks, women... We were told that all monks from the Inle area were to come : roughly 1,500 monks ! It was a great event for them and for us as well.
