Photographer's Note

Inle lake is the territory of the Intha, who are thought to have migrated there from the Dawei area of southern Myanmar in the 18th century. With the land already populated, the Intha constructed stilt villages on the lake and established ‘floating’ gardens to grow their crops. Some of the villages on Inle Lake are known as floating villages since they have canals for streets, and much of the day to day activities are carried out from canoes or boats. The canals are lined by teak stilt houses, and the villages has several shops and restaurants.
