Photographer's Note
Lookout for Takhis:
The "Great Gobi Strictly Protected Area" in Southwest Mongolia is an awesome sight. The desertic steppe measures 127 x 40 km. Here you see Rangers on the lookout for free roaming Takhis (Przewalski horses) on the Five Hills mountain. There is little vegetation available to the extremely shy horses, plants cover often less than 20% of the pebble- strewn surface. To the right the Bij river flows from the mountains into the desert where it disappears, you may notice the vegetation bordering it. An Altai mountain chain can be seen on the far horizon. It separates Mongolian Gobi from the Chinese Dsungarian desert.
