Photographer's Note

Among the few reasons why anyone would want to wake up very early in the morning before the sun is on the horizon, is getting to see the effect of the waking sun on the landscape. Just like sunset, the best colors are usually when the sun is not getting in the way, as in just right below the horizon, when it's bright enough to display its colors.

One of the few best places to see the rising sun is when it's slowly coming up the horizon behind Mt Kinabalu. One easily accessible place is on the longest bridge in Sabah, spanning over the Mengkabong river. It takes less than 45 minutes to get here from Kota Kinabalu along the Sulaman Highway. The nearest resort to this bridge is Rasa Ria and Nexus Karambunai, with Rasa Ria about 15 minutes away and the later, about 25 minutes.

It's best to get here before 5.30 and the sun is usually warming up the horizon with its colors, like in this photo, around at 6.
