Photographer's Note

The Malacca River was once dubbed the Venice of the East in the 15th century by the European seafarers when it was an international port. These days the river is much more laid back and is dominated by river cruises that carry tourists upstream and back. Many of the houses here have been turned into cosy hostels although some families still reside in these riverside houses. The residents often find curious tourists peeking into their homes, wondering how their daily life is. Malacca has been listed as a UNESCO heritage site since 2008.
