Photographer's Note

The Kampong Natai's Harvest Festival or Keamatan in the Kadazandusun dialect,is an annual event conducted during the weekend on the 1st week of June. To get here, you need to go to telipok first, a flood proned small town about 30 minutes from Kota Kinabalu. Kampong Natai, is a village about 16km inland on the otherside of the Lawa Mandau range. Beside this way, you can also reach Kampong Natai from Kiulu and Inanam.

During this festivity, you will be served with village brewed wine and liquor and assortment of ethnic dishes. Then there will be dances and a song or two, and if you are a tourist, you have to oblige to participate and make everyone happy. Whether you know how to sing or not, or with two left foot, you just can't weasel your way out. But its fun and, it is more fun especially if you don't know how to sing or dance.

The baby boy, oblivious to its surrounding is snugged sleeping in a baby sling fashioned from a sarong, while her mother is rooted to a traditional performance on stage.
