Photographer's Note
An impression of the ubiquitous Kancil. In Malaysia, Kancil is the 4 doors mini car which in all likelihood, is just about anywhere and everywhere in Malaysia.
It's also a good indicator whether a certain rural area is "passable" as well for other vehicles. A common relative question or inquiry would be:" Can a Kancil go in?" The thing is, if you see or know a Kancil or Mousedeer in English, could go in or out of a certain rural area, the chances are, your better build vehicle could make it too.
Here in this photo, a Kancil on a small rock jetty in Mempakul, facing the channel which leads to the small strait between mainland Sabah and Labuan Island. Mempakul is the administration area for Menumbuk.
This channel is the main thoroughfare for boats and ferries plying between Labuan Island and Menumbuk, the main embark/disembark point this southern part of Sabah.
