Photographer's Note

Meet Mimi. She is one of the assistants, working with Monsopiad Cultural Village, in Kampong Kuai, Penampang. She is a local Kadazan girl and she is wearing her traditional dress. It is made of hand woven cotten material and it is decorated with the common metallic regalias of this ethnic tribe; antiquated copper coins, colorful beads etc... Mimi would only wear this dress with its decoration, for ceremonial and cultural event. But there would be instances, where you could see Kadazan wearing this dress or its variation, minus the decorative elements.

You can find her, waiting guests on the porch of a raised wooden traditional house called "Kotos Id Monsopiad" or The House Of Monsopiad. It is believed, the warrior Monsopiad lived 300 years ago, in such a house.

With attap roof and bamboo cuts for floor and tree barks for the walling, the ambience inside the house is pretty airy and cooling.
