Photographer's Note

This young mother goes shopping with her son in the main wet market of Vang Vieng by carrying him in a long baby scarf around her right shoulder. This is the traditional way how babies are carried in Laos till today. Generally Laotians are found of little children and try all the time to communicate with them to make them laugh. Obviously this mother was looking for some rice noodles and other dry food stuff sold by this stall in the central market of Vang Vieng. With the baby son at her side, shopping is a lot of fun as all the sellers like to play and joke with little one. Seller, mother and son perfectly represents Laos' demographic trend: Almost 60% of the population is less then 25 years old.
