Photographer's Note

There are many caves in the limestone cliffs aroung Van Vieng. The Tham Phu Kham holy cave is one of the most well known, about 6 kilometers from Vang Vieng. Just hire a bike to get there and ride on the dirt road surrounded by the magnificent cliffs. The Tham Phu Kham cave is located on the other side of a very blue/green crystal clear stream. A true "swim hole" very popular with visitors who take there a refreshing dip after the bike ride or when getting down from the cave which is located a considerable distance up the side of the mountain - up very steep very well worn limestone steps. There are no clearly marked pathways inside the cave so you are pretty much on your own in semi-darkness as you climb down to the "reclining Buddha", a golden Buddha set within the cave laying under a small canopy (see workshop).
